The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board is pleased to offer a new opportunity to join a team of therapists dedicated to serving their community. This full-time therapy position will provide individual and group therapy to individuals struggling with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring issues. General Statement of Duties:

To provide individual and group counseling, education, individual evaluation, assessment, treatment planning, for persons with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. The Adult Outpatient Clinician is directly responsible to the Senior Manager of Adult Outpatient Services. The position requires expertise in the area of person-centered, evidenced-based treatment of substance use and mental health disorders, as well as the ability to work effectively with other service providers both within the Board system and in the community. Good professional judgment and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality are also required.

Major Essential Functions:

  • Provides treatment planning, direct counseling, individual and group therapy, and case management to consumers with mental health and/or substance use disorders, individuals with multiple challenges that interfere with functioning, and family members.
  • Meets agency standards for staff productivity.
  • Assures compliance with agency policy, client rights, confidentiality, professional ethics, licensure regulations, and Medicaid regulations as applicable.
  • Participates in consultation and coordination meetings to assure effective and efficient delivery of services to consumers.

CSU Lead Nurse

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assures accessible and effective 24-hour delivery of medical services appropriate to the admission and maintenance of residential crisis stabilization services including coordination with medical prescriber when necessary.
  • Supervises and schedules the work of crisis stabilization nursing staff, including shift coverage, and the coordination with CSU medical providers.
  • Provides for the safe storage, handling, and administration of IM and oral medications in compliance with state and federal law, departmental guidelines, and Community Services Board policy and procedure, as well as safe storage and handling of necessary medical supplies
  • Call in physician medication orders to pharmacies as authorized by physician.
  • Providing medical decision-making & leadership as part of CSU Leadership (along with Supervisor and Case Coordinator.)
  • Provides leadership to and medical services oversight of other nurses.
  • Arranges lab tests
  • Practices good venipuncture techniques and administers intramuscular injections under the direction of the medical provider.
  • Monitors clients for the development of side effects of medications, reporting this to the medical provider and ensuring best practice documentation
  • Reviews laboratory results and reports irregularities to medical provider.
  • In conjunction with CSU team, coordinates and administers a comprehensive health history, making appropriate referrals as needed for further assessment and treatment. Provides consultation to other clinical staff regarding health care issues.
  • Provides leadership to the nursing team and quality assurance of the programming and delivery of the educational nursing group to include medication, health, and wellness education on an individual and group basis to residents of the facility.
  • Documents client contacts and maintains client records in accordance with established Board policy and procedure;
  • Participates, as necessary, with Board staff and staff of other agencies in planning services for CSU residents;
  • Contributes to the positive culture of the CSU and facilitates an environment of courtesy, compassion, and respect amongst staff.

Continuation of this position is contingent upon annual renewal of service contracts between the city of Harrisonburg and/ or Rockingham County local school system.

Occupational Therapist—Infant and Toddler Connection

General Statement of Duties:

To provide direct client services through the Early Intervention program. Services are provided to infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and their families. The ITC Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Local System Manager. This position requires considerable independence and autonomy in day-to-day decision-making about service delivery; requires expertise in gross motor and fine motor development, special education, early childhood development, developmental delay, and/or intellectual disability; and ability to work effectively with parents and infants, work cooperatively with staff from other agencies, and work as part of a team are essential.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates and assesses infants and toddlers for gross/fine motor delays and sensory processing:

Evaluates and assesses infants and toddlers for adaptive equipment/assistive technology needs;

Provides direct occupational therapy services to ITC clients;

Participates in multidisciplinary assessments and team meetings for individual children;

Maintains effective relationships with co-workers, children, and families based on courtesy, compassion, and respect;

Participates in staff development activities as required;

Participates in staff meetings and team development;

Adheres to regulations and standards established by or for compliance with human rights regulations, agency licensure requirements, Part C requirements for early intervention services, confidentiality statutes, third party payor rules, professional code of ethics, etc.;

Exhibits excellent customer service, including promptly returning phone calls, use of Credible, voice mail, e-mail, etc.;

Excellent diagnostic and evaluative skills in the areas of infant and toddler gross motor and fine motor development and adaptive equipment needs; thorough knowledge of the principles of child development, developmental delay, and disabilities; good interpersonal skills with the ability to teach and to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to work effectively with persons from a wide variety of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds who may vary markedly in their understanding of infant development; exhibits consistently good judgment and a high level of independence and initiative; ability to work effectively as a team member and with other community agencies; basic computer literacy and word processing skills required.

CSU Clinician Hourly

General Statement of Duties:

This crisis stabilization program is a short term, 7-bed intensive residential program staffed 24 hours a day to provide crisis services to individual with mental health and co-occurring disorders. Services provided include individual and group therapy.  This position assists in coordinating services and/or resources needed by the resident during their stay and upon discharge from the facility. This position exercises independence in day-to-day decision-making, and it requires expertise in mental health treatment, diagnoses, intervention and assessment with adults whose needs may be difficult to meet. This position works with other crisis stabilization team members, family members, other caregivers, and community resources.

This position is classified non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Major Essential Functions:

  1. Provides intake assessments, individual, group, and family sessions to residents of the crisis stabilization program.
  2. Is the lead group facilitator during their assigned shift and provides one-on-one therapy to clients as appropriate.
  3. Provides recommendations/suggestions in the development of treatment plans that address the needs of the resident’s treatment during enrollment and needed referrals and services upon discharge.
  4. Accurately completes administrative and other paperwork as required.
  5. Along with the CSU Supervisor and the Case Coordinator, develops individual treatment plans that address the needs of the consumer.
  6. Provides in put to CSU Supervisor and Case Coordinator in developing treatment resources pertinent to planning content for group and individual treatment.
  7. Works with CSU Supervisor and Case Coordinator to develop discharging planning and the linkage of the consumer to resources in the community.
  8. In conjunction with other program staff, provides general supervision of the CSU, and ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
  9. Provide positive behavior supports to residents. Responds to emergency situations that occur and appropriately involves other providers, including other program staff, agency emergency services staff, emergency medical services, and law enforcement, as needed.
  10. Assists consumers, when necessary, with daily living tasks as needed, including general facility maintenance tasks, laundry, meal preparation, and transportation.
  11. Attends interdisciplinary, inter-agency and community-based meetings related to consumer treatment when appropriate.
  12. Assures compliance with agency policy, client rights, confidentiality, licensure regulations and Medicaid regulations as applicable.
  13. Completes other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor and/or other management staff.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques involved in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders individually and in a group setting.

CSU Nurse, Hourly

Be a part of the dynamic, interdisciplinary team teaching and supporting individuals experiencing psychiatric crisis. HRCSB is seeking nursing staff who are proficient in the field, yet sensitive to the challenges individuals face when dealing with a psychiatric crisis. Arbor House is a short-term, 7-bed crisis stabilization program working with folks to avoid psychiatric hospitalization, or stepping down from hospital setting before returning home. Duties include standard nursing practices, as well as working with team of mental health professionals to ensure high quality care to those experiencing a psychiatric crisis. This position provides opportunities for engaging on an individual level, facilitating teaching moments, and life skill development outside of general nursing duties.
Currently hiring for weekend daytime hours (Fri 2:30-7:30pm, Saturday 7-5 and Sunday 7-5pm).

Speech Language Pathologist

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist! Duties also include trans-disciplinary evaluation and treatment in a family-centered environment, primarily within the home. Medical Director / Chief Psychiatrist

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board is hiring a Medical Director/Chief Psychiatrist! Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board (HRCSB) provides services to residents across the lifespan for mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities. The incumbent for this position will provide clinical leadership in combination with direct services to children with serious emotional disturbance and/or adults with serious mental illness and other behavioral health concerns across disabilities.
